Well, here it is.

I've held onto it for way too long, but I've finally had time to drop it on here.

It's 7 new(some sorta old) songs. It's only about 20 minutes long.

It's Insufficient Funds!

I started this about 3 or 4 years ago and whittled 25 beats down to these seven that I thought were the strongest and the most deserving of getting the treatment from Seth and Gerard. Who by the by were incredible in mixing and mastering it one night.

Scott Masson is rockin the piano on "At 6pm" you probably recognize it from the OFFICE record Q&A.

Dear Grandpa Maurice does actually contain my grandfather's voice, from an interview my Uncle Lanny did with him just before his death.

Tom Smith is currently working on some artwork. Hopefully I can get that to y'all in the next couple of weeks.

My girlfriend is in a band.

That band is called a Light Sleeper.

A Light Sleeper is awesome.

They have a new album out it's called Amicability.

Two Old Albums, basically the whole discography up til now

So in advance of releasing an EP of new stuff, I decided to give away my first two records. You can either keep reading this long, weepy eyed post or just go straight to the downloads at the bottom.

The first one was actually released under Easygoer, but then I changed my name so I changed it on this "re-release" to The Crash Davis Spectacular and changed the album name to Easygoer. I listened to it all the way through last night and it's not too bad. It's definitely not mastered properly and certainly could've been mixed better, but for a first outing I'm not ashamed of it. I originally put it out there in 2004. Sean Parker(Violence Ammunition) deserves a ton of credit for generally helping out and encouraging me to do it. DJ Intel does any scratching you might hear.

The second of the two was released the next year(2005) as a self-titled album. The rappity rappity you hear on Greenline is 2nd Thought. The piano and synth on How I Try is the great Justin Petertil and again all turntables are DJ Intel. I was living with Justin and Scott Masson when I was working on this and they both helped me immensely. A lot of nights at that house ended on the back porch with a twelve pack taking turns listening to what the others were working on and this record is much better because of that.

Oh and Intel's the best deejay a guy could ever ask for.

Song of the Week That I Didn't Make

To be honest I'm not a big fan of the current R&B scene. There's the occasional radio hit that'll catch my ear and I enjoyed John Legend's first two records quite a bit. But in general I don't find very much of it especially compelling.

That said Raphael Saadiq's new record is straight fire. He revisits the sound of young America that was Motown, but does it in his own way. It's been bumpin pretty regularly in the bookstore and it ain't gonna stop soon.

Here's "Oh Girl." There's also a remix of the same song at the end of the record with Jay-Z, although I don't think he adds much to the song to be honest.

P.S. Seth, Gerard and I finished up a seven song ep last Friday. It should be up on here later this week or early next. Check back.

The new a Light Sleeper record is currently streaming on their audio page.

While I may hold a small(read: very large) bias towards them. I've been dating the saxophonist for two and a half years, so what. I can still honestly say it's a really great record. It's gonna be the first release on Another New Calligraphy records and it's going to change the world probably.

Song of the Week That I Didn't Make

Hey people.

Sorry I've been gone for so long. I hope someone kept this in their RSS feed. I should have some new stuff of my own coming up here in the next couple of weeks. Until then I'll try to stay on top of The Song of the Week and some other stuff.

I've been listening to a lot of Marvin Gaye recently. Which is really saying something since I usually listen to a good amount of Marvin every week. But I picked up Here, My Dear recently. Someone had told me that it wasn't an especially good record awhile back and I better not remember who it was cause it's a beautiful, intense record. Here's some more info.

Without further ado here's my current favorite on the album Sparrow.

The iBook went down again. No kernel panic this time either. Some kind of full blown directory error.

Hopefully I can breathe some life into it at my folk's house over the holiday. Otherwise there will be a lot of swearing.

Mike at my work got me listening to this today and I've listened to a bunch more since I got home.

It's Sir-Mix-A-Lot's "Posse On Broadway" and it's a banger.

Best line, "cause the 808 kick drum makes the girlies want to get dumb." Yes it does Sir-Mix-A-Lot, yes it does.

The Long Lost Christmas EP

Alright, so I'm back up and running. Just a little kernel panic. Disk utility and prayer, deep deep prayer fixed her right up.

I wanted to get this up the Friday after Thanksgiving, but better late than never right?

This Christmas EP was produced about 4 years ago for a Christmas art exchange. I got a book Colin Palombi made by hand in the exchange not a bad deal if you ask me.

As I remember it, I made the whole thing while Tom and I were living with his Mom(Dee), sitting at her kitchen table. My Uncle Lanny sends out a mix cd of Christmas songs every year. I took five of the songs and remixed them straight off the cd.

As you might notice it was produced when pitched up vocals were all the rage.

I made some changes to the same piece I put up last week, pretty minor.

I'm gonna get back to the records tonight. Hopefully something brand new later this week.

This is from Carla Thomas' "The Queen Alone." It's from her time on Stax, which was almost all of her career. That's her up on the banner there at WattStax.

Her pops was Rufus Thomas who had a bunch of semi-silly/really funky dance hits like "Do The Funky Chicken."

I listen to this whole record at least once a week and this song just kills me for whatever reason. Probably cause it's awesome.

My girlfriend's father had a ten record set from Reader's Digest called Mood Music for Listening and Relaxation. She took it from him. I took it from her. And this is the first piece out of the deal.
